Pair vitamin C with plant iron
Iron comes in two forms: haem iron (from meat and fish, absorbed easily) and non-haem iron (from plants such as beans, lentils, spinach, tofu and fortified cereals, absorbed far less efficiently). Vitamin C is the standout helper for the plant form.

Another found that adding avocado or avocado oil to salad and salsa multiplied carotenoid absorption several times over — for example, lutein absorption from salad rose around fivefold, and beta-carotene far more (Unlu et al., 2005).

Black pepper with turmeric
Turmeric's active compound, curcumin, is poorly absorbed on its own — most of it is processed and cleared before it can be used. Piperine, the pungent compound in black pepper, slows that clearance. In a small human study, adding a modest amount of piperine increased curcumin bioavailability dramatically compared with curcumin alone (Shoba et al., 1998).
So what? If you cook with turmeric — in a curry, dahl or golden-milk drink — add a few twists of black pepper and a little fat (curcumin is fat-soluble too).
